EVERYTHING ELSE, General tips / Lug nut opening - Overtightened

So previously to my owning them the rim was over-tightened due to the left hand thread. The rim now has the nut opening larger than it should be. I thought at one time I found a page showing someones repair for this but can no longer find it. Does anyone know of a website showing how to repair this type of problem?

Sorry haven't been on in a while. I will have to look at mine this weekend in good lighting. I didn't notice the hammered look but wasn't paying too much attention other than looking at the color. I don't really like the look of the hammered paints that I have used in the past but will have to see what the paint currently looks like.

I guess I will have to decide if I want to go with the original color or a modified color...I was curious if they came in other colors because I plan on changing the body color to something closer to a tan and thought that the tan and color on the heater might be too close yet off...

I recently pulled out my Harrison heater and am eventually going to restore. Here are some of my questions. If anyone has any questions please feel free to add to this thread.

• Does anyone know the original paint color for the heaters?

A lot of us do what 1955CJ-5 suggests.� An extra ground wire can help.

Is the float getting caught on the internal tank baffle?� I don't know if this is possible though. I think the screws holding the sending unit to the tank will only line up a certain way.

That is one clean looking tank! Did you end up just replacing the tank or did you restore it? I am looking to reuse the tank I already have but am wondering what the best steps are to clean out the tank...inside and out.

I just took my tank out today. It only had 1 layer of cardboard under it. It was quite soggy...luckily I think it was more oil than water. I am probably going to put something different under it but I don't see how I could get a hockey puck to fit, tank was already pretty high coming out the side of the body. I like the rubber idea though. Will have to see what I can find.

High zinc seems the way to go from what I have read as well.

I recently removed mine and it looks similar to yours. I am not sure if it works or not but figured I would just buy a new one so that I know it works. They are under $30 for a new one. Of course that is just my $0.02 and I know all too well that $20 here and there adds up...so you could always try it and see how it does and if it doesn't work replace it. Luckily that is an easy part to get to

Here are the pictures I was able to take by myself...not the best but give you an idea. It appears I was wrong and they do have similar radii.

I am working on a bantam trailer and happen to have the fenders off. I will try to compare them and add a picture for you. I want to say the radius of the bantam is larger...but that is just my gut feeling.

Thanks for the great input. I will see what I can do to get these off.

I just saw another video with the same welding a washer and nut to the broken stud technique. I am hoping that will work for me when I get my welder.

I tried to use penetrating spray for the last three weeks but it apparently was too corroded to get in far enough...should have tried heat though before going to the next one.  I also didn't think to use my impact figured it would actually be worse but apparently it couldn't have been any worse...

Engine compartment / Exhaust Manifold Studs

Hey all,
I am looking for some input on the best way to remove/replace exhaust manifold studs like the ones in the link below.

I ask because when trying to remove the studs this weekend I had most of them break on me

I am hoping that maybe I can use some heat (torch) and tap them with a hammer to break them loose in order to replace them.

Does anyone else have any great ideas for how to remove broken off studs?

Thanks for the response. I will look into that more. I am glad to hear that it might be possible to use the original style master cylinder since I had one on hand already to swap in. I was initially thinking just doing the fronts but the price difference won't be much to go with all 4 wheels.

It sounds like you will get to yours before I do. I would love to hear how it goes for you and if you think the stock cylinder is sufficient.

I have been doing some more research into the brake system of the older Willys and have a question before I do the conversion from drum to disc. I would appreciate any feedback.

With the conversion to disc brakes did you change your master cylinder?

Has anyone just done the front brakes to disc and kept the back drum? Did you change your master cylinder?

Everything I am reading says that you should change because of the amount of fluid required for disc brakes vs drum brakes. I would like to get better brakes but want to make sure I account for everything required when I do them.
