Keep your eyes peeled for some pastel paint underneath the red....That dash may have been modified to take the earlier instruments, and you seem to have a toolbox as well, but everything else is pointing to one of these

Could be the grab handles on the windshield are chrome underneath the paint if its any of those colors it could be the blue because the gas tank has a small leak and loosened some of the paint on the driverside floorboard and I thought I saw some blue paint. One other little detail is the rear mounted gas tank its in some of the pictures I took and its in some of the dispatcher jeep pics I have seen.

And the mystery deepens just took this picture of the driver side floorboard sure looks like blue paint to me I also thought it strange when I removed the tires and rims no left handed threaded studs on the driver side like the axles on my parts jeep are.

After looking over the surry brochure I think this is another feature of the surry tub.

Definitely curiouser and curiouser.....Internet going buggy tonight due to storms.....but it looks like you are doing fine on the pix..I just downloaded them and am going to put them in PB. Lots of possible pink spots of paint in chipped areas from what I see.. For one check out the windshield frame in front of the steering wheel.

That blue is not a Surrey blue...But....there may be some other color yet underneath it. .

Can you see any welding work done to the dash or the tool box that looks liek it was done after it left the factory??

Is there a stamped in number on the passenger side frame rail top surface behind the motor mount and in front of the tub? (Or is there a 56337-xxxxx serial number plate on the right firewall?_)

Today I ran my fingers behind the dash looking for filled screw holes but didnt find any so there was never a plate affixed to the dash and the fuel filler on the driver side was added later you can see it was welded inalso it has longer frame horns than the parts jeep I have. There is no numbers I can find on the frame rails it has a CJ-3A tag on the firewall probably added by someone through the years but that is all on the firewall.

Also see the steering column outer tube has been rotated and there is the Surry /DJ column shifter upper bracket.

You also still have the DJ rear tank, right rear filler, reap pnel brace from the floor, and teh DJ parking brake handle is still in the dash , withe a 3A handle too.. I think the tub was a Surrey tub at one point.

Here is a link to my Photobucket library where I put the rest of your pix.

http://s1296.beta.photobucket.com/user/FBilljeeps/library/#/user/FBilljeeps/library/?&_suid=136280299448408797685452690691

Here you can see the DJ carb...It has a paper element filter, but it is aftermarket. The oil bath was an optional filter on the DJ.

Those body spacers are strange.....ANd I can't tell what is going on with the frame to need them. Bottom mounted Cj2A stule radiator too. (also earlier 3A)  Interesting radiator brace rod modification.

The reason to raise the body in the front is to clear the oversize tires to be able to steer without rubbing the fenders and when they had the 2BBL carb on it I think they thought by raising the front of the body they could get it to fit under the hood eventually they had to cut the hole in the hood anyways. I am also puzzled by the axles being different than the ones on my parts jeep these are all right hand threaded studs where my other jeep had left hand studs on the driver side maybe they swapped them out while doing a brake job years ago.

It would be educational to carefully remove this part and see what color is underneath.

On your right handed stud issue....I would bet someone broke a couple of left handed ones in the past aand they decided to replace them with "normal" studs. It is pretty common for guys to break off a stud or two before they figure it out, maybe this guy didn't figure it out until it was too late.

Here's more of your pics...

Thanks Im going to take the front clip off today and see what other surprises await thanks for the work you did with the pics I think the frame was a surrey frame too because of the long frame horns.

The 3A frame and a Surrey frame are almost identical except for the drawbar/ rear gast tank changes.

TO mount the chrome rear bumper they used a z shaped piece of bar stock, and the front bumpers were mounted directly to the frame rail by a bolt thru the face fo the bumper.

I tried to post a bunch more but Photobreakit was not cooperating.

The front gusset mounts you have need to be eliminated for any serious wheeling. HAve you seen the valve spring/hocky puck body mounts Nate did? You need to let the body move a little when teh frame flexes.

You have the same parking lights as used on my 60 DJ's....it is the same light as used on early CJ5, not a 3A light when you try to get parts for it. Glass lensed, bolts are very easy to break off. Start soaking things with PB blaster a week before you try to change a bulb.

With all the modifications that went on, besides the surrey specific grab handles and footman loops, we need to sand the paint down to see what the bottom layers are to definitely know if that is a Surrey tub.

Let me be the first to say if you decide not to restore it as a Surrey (expensive!!) please save the Surrey components for a surrey owner. I really could use those footman loops and the grab handles if they prove to be Surrey parts.  DO NOT TOSS ANYTHING yet until you have checkes with us DJ guys to see if it is a special part. They used some goofy and cheap looking brackets here and there that look like someone visited the local hardware store to buy parts..

I will post a link to this over on the DIspatcher board of Derek Redmond's CJ3B site. BA, Colin , Glennstin and Oldtime are all really knowledgeable guys who will be interested iin your new jeep!!

Thanks for the advise it wont be restored as a surrey the grab handles are going to come off as well as the loops on the front fenders Maybe the rear gas tank and filler if you want them PM me an offer Im not greedy just reinvesting the money back into the jeep.
