Gearboxes and axles / Identification request
« on: April 07, 2017, 11:11:45 AM »
While cleaning up layers of grease, I found this ID tag on the main housing of my T90 gearbox:

I was wondering if any former military could ID the unit.
I thought SAC was Strategic Air Command? "Dac"h might be a short for a base in Germany?
Since my CJ3 is former Belgian army, it is odd to find this type of ID plate since these abbrevations are not typical Belgian army.
Then again, the transferbox may have been replaced much later during a former restoration.
Thx

Engine compartment / Re: Radiator fixing

Okay, thanks for the reply. It explains a lot.
Seems these tabs have been removed on mine, unfortunately

The upward welded piece was the new attached for the radiator. This piece blocks the correct installation of the grill.

Engine compartment / Radiator fixing

I'm looking for pictures of an engine bay on how the radiator is fixed in a factory fresh configuration, as a CJ3A came of the factory line.
Reason for asking is that currently a much larger (longer) diesel engine in my jeep resulted in moving the radiator about 2 inches forward on new welded brackets on the tube frame.
As I'm restoring the jeep to its factory condition so the diesel has to go but I'm not sure how to place the radiator back again.
Thx

Here's the start , and hopefully I can post pictures as I go along.

july 2015, when the jeep was delivered.

November 2016, got the necessary body parts for a "simple" conversion to CJ3a.

March 2017

Slightly forced into a rather major restaration due to a few problems. Body panels that didn't fit properly, gearbox re-arrangement, alterations to the frame and the like.
All this had been done to install a diesel engine, which was a popular modification due to higher fuel prices and this country at one piont.

I did plan a major restauration, but rather in few years.
Considering the state of the frame and bottom of the body, I'm happy to start now.
I suppose the previous owner did take it off-roading once and awhile, but never cleaning it properly as the dirt got clogged just about everywhere.

I did post this also in the presentation thread, so sorry about that.

Just a quick note that since my last post, my JC3 looks like this at the moment:

While going over the details to install a rebuild engine in it, and remove the diesel engine, some odd problems were found.
One was that the gearbox had been moved forward an inch or so, revealing clutch and brake pedal adaptions that were not sound at all.
So I decided to start with a major restoration after all, something I didn't want to do for at least another year or two.
While removing the body it looked worse than I thought,  I'm happy I do start now, considering the state of the frame and body bottom.
I'm afraid I wont be driving with it much this summer.

This is how she looks at the moment:

I was able to swop most parts for these CJ3a / M38 parts.
Still a lot of work needs to be done.

Thanks for the welcome.
Tilburg is indeed just over the border, not far.

I'm paging through all these excellent topics.
Here's a picture of the jeep when I got it:

A lot had been altered by the previous owner to give that MB look. At the moment most of these features are gone.

My real name is Guy, and I live and work in Antwerpen, Belgium. I have a CJ3A. It is a former Belgian army that I bought 3 years ago. The previous owner gave it an MB look but I'm in the process of getting it back to its CJ3A appearance. So far most of the body parts have been acquired, and ready to be installed.
Once I get settled here, I'll post some pictures.
