2014 Summer Willys Reunion 8/ 22-24 Effingham,IL

Print Post
Hi all,

Just to let you know, since the Fall Reunion is taking a year off, the committee has decided to have a Summer Reunion in Effingham, IL in August.  The hotel and banquet facilities are available the weekend of August 22-24 and also the following weekend August 29-31 (Labor Day weekend).

I'd like to get some feedback from the members on which weekend works best for all y'all.

My vote is for Labor Day weekend because it gives everyone an extra day to travel home before work on Tuesday.

Either weekend is doable.  If you plan to attend or you are seriously considering, please help the committee decide with some feedback.  We want to do what's best for the jeep community.

Thanks!

I would be okay with either weekend.  August is usually a pretty busy month for my family so we might not be able to make it.

Please keep us updated.  Out of curiosity, why is the Fall Reunion taking a year off?

I don't know the answer to that.  I believe it has to do with the hotel construction going on.

Thanks for all the responses.  So far between this forum and the 2A page, practically everyone who plans to come is open to either weekend.  Based on the responses so far, Labor Day weekend is more popular but it's important to make it fit the vendor's schedule.  I've talked to Harry Sheets and he will be their either weekend.  I also talked to Dave Hutson.  He can't do Labor Day weekend but thinks he can do 22-24th.  He is going to make sure and get back with me..... so..... If Dave will commit to coming, it will be 22-24 but if he is out either way it will likely be Labor Day weekend.  That is unless a barrage of anti Labor Day posts pop up.  Thanks for the feedback!   Smiley

Hey all.  It's official.  The dates are August 22-24.  All the regular vendors will be there and hopefully some new ones.  Hope all y'all can make it.  Details will be forthcoming at www.midwestwillysreunion.org/sumwwr.htm. Keep checking.  I am announcing it here way early to let everyone know that there will be a reunion.

I can see the seminar topic already:

"Jeff Petrowski and the General demonstrate how to properly do the spare tire toss. No trees need attend this seminar."

Also possible topics include Proper dress for subzero jeeping, How to Fit a roll of canvas in a Ford Festiva, and jeep and parts acquisition, setting the limitHow to hide more jeep parts so your neighbors won't know.., ? possibly led by a guest from Texas.

Hey how about a side show, with classic bikes? It has been mentioned here before and I know we have several members with them.  Perhaps a display in the same spirit as the toy display...

Now that you mention it, we do need some tech talks so if someone is interested in doing one, let me know.

I've been talking with Mike over on the 2A forum and he's thinking of shipping me a couple of his Tailgate Repair Kits to offer at the reunion.
We'll see how that works out.
I'll try to generate some sales for him. Shows are always a good way to highlight things that have been around for a while. People tend to forget they exist.
See you in Effingham.

Now that the Willys picnic is over, this is the next large gathering so I'm going to bump up the chatter.

To let everyone know, There are going to be gift certificates and other door prizes and raffles from some of the following vendors:

Midwest Willys
Walcks
Ron Fitzpatrick
Kaiser Willys
Summit Racing
Willys America
Norris/Banonis

Bob, let me know if I'm leaving anybody out.

If anyone wants to offer door prizes or raffle items, please let me know and Thank you!

Hotel Reservations:

You can call the Holiday Inn and make reservations at the front desk.  The number is 217-540-7777.  Make sure you let them know you are with the Willys Reunion.  If you make your reservation using the 800 number you will be making the reservation through corporate.  If so, let them know you are with the Willys Reunion and the discount code is WJR.  The hotel is very easy to find.  Basically if you are coming into Effingham on either I-57 or I-70 you will be able to see the reunion from the Interstate.  Take exit 163 and follow the jeeps.

Food:
Besides the hotel restaurant, there is also a Cracker Barrel, TGI Fridays, Ruby Tuesday, Dennys, and Stake-N-Shake all within flat fender distance or even walking distance.  They also have the usual fast food restaurants; McDonalds, Wendys, Subway, Long John Silvers, Burger King, Arbys, ...

If anyone needs any special accommodations,  please let me know and I will do whatever I can for you.

Thanks for reading Smiley
