Golden, Colorado Super Cruise !!!

Print Post
Details are emerging for a May 5th Super Cruise Gathering in Golden, Colorado.  The event is sponsored by the CFFC.  (Colorado Flat Fender Club).  The time and meeting area is in the planning stage and will be announced as the specifics are determined.

Here is a link to the 2A page where the discussion and planning are starting.  http://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/iffc-super-cruise-in-golden-may-5_topic23167.h...

All Flat fenders are welcome.  As Lew mentions in the 2A post, the Super Cruise is something you have to see to believe.  Thousands of the most amazing cars and trucks are on display, and cruising the streets of Golden.  It is a loosely organized parade/party atmosphere where thousands and thousands of people just seem to spontaneously gather.  No entry fees, no rules. The police let this happen from around 4:00 to 8:00 pm.

We will probably gather earlier in the day and put together a convoy of Flatties.

Again, if anyone is interested in joining in the fun, Let Lew Ladwig at the 2a page know....or let me know and I pass along your information.

Tim

I lived in Morrison, CO back in 08-09, right up the road from Golden.  Such a great place to live, wish I could cruise up there for this.

I posted this at the 2A page.   It sure would be great to have a few more flat fenders coming to the cruise.  Right now, there will probably be 3 or 4 Jeeps in the May 5th event.  I know it's not an event that would draw a lot of folks from long distances. It is only a 4 hour event, but if you are in the Denver metro area, it may be a lot of fun.   Comanche, when you get her all back together, come out for a Fall Colors Tour.

Did some recon yesterday.  On 10th , west of Washington Ave, sits the Golden Rec Center.  Good parking, and turn arounds.  (If you have a trailer, in and out is easy)  There are parks all around.  Check it out on Google Maps.   http://maps.google.com/maps/place?cid=8121917065669271756&q=lyons+park,+golden,+...

This location may work as a meeting point for all flat fenders that want to roll at the Super Cruise.  I will refer to Lew.

There was an un-official Super Cruise yesterday.  My wife and I went.  I did not drive the Willys, as I did not want to spoil the Convoy of Willys planned for May 5th.  It was "un-official", but you wouldn't have known it. 100s of cars, and thousands of people.  Seems like folks are really juiced to show and see some nice rides.   We walked the entire route and did not see a single Flat Fender.  Not one.  There was one pretty rugged CJ5 driving the route.

This thing is a true specticle.  If you are a car lover and decide to come, I will almost guarranty you will be back for more of these cruises.  You just won't believe it until you see it.

Tim,
I'm thinking pretty seriously about this.  I would have my 2 dogs (in the jeep)...would that be a problem do you think?  Do you think the Rec. center will be filled up with other vehicles that day, or is this area usually not claimed by all of the folks participating?  I would have my truck and a tow dolly...no problem with parking while the "event" is going on?  Wouldn't want to get in an area that I can't get out of, if you know what I mean -  (I can't back up with everything hooked up).  May see you in a month!

Hey Tom,

Dogs are welcome.  Dogs are everywhere, on a leash.  Golden is very dog friendly.  (If I thought I could contain my dogs in the Jeep, I would have mine with me too.  Maybe we will try to bring our three legged fellow.  If he gets away, I can usually chase him down.)

The Golden Rec Center is located 2-3 miles away from the cruise route.  It is an easy in and out without having to back up.  It is far enough off the beaten track that people less familiar with Golden wouldn't probably know about it.  I am not positive about this, as I have never done this cruise before.  There is so much parking back in that area.  The Rec Center, the Library, the Golden Museum, the park, and a couple little league baseball fields.  Most of the people partisipating in the cruise are parked in every nook and cranny on the parade route.

If you Google Map 'South Golden Road, Golden Colorado', You will see where the folks cruise and congregate. Compare that area to the Lyons Park area.  I hope you can make it.

Thanks a lot, Tim - this answers my question.  If I can make it, I would no doubt come down Hwy 93 from Boulder and forgo the Interstate.  It looks like a pretty easy in and out from 93.

Just a quick note:

I will be at this Super Cruise.  I know it's not a real destination event, but if anyone plans on going, I'll be there.  I'll take some pictures.  They may inspire others to join in on future cruises this year.  As mentioned before, you have to see this event to believe it.

Keep 'em runnin folks.  I hope everyone is well.

Tim

Hey Tim,  Sure wanted to make it last night but had a conflict.  How did everything go?   Did some other flatfenders show up?  Sounded like a good time and I hope it all went well.

We had a lot of fun at the "Cruise".  We didn't do much cruising.  Just a couple ups and downs.  There were so many cars and people.  Traffic was deadlocked.  Outside of the pictured group, we saw 2-3Bs, one pretty rare gray US Navy/2A, one white 3A. (I think I saw the white 3A in a couple photos in the Fall Colors Thread on the 2A page)

But Lew was right in a prior post on the 2A page:  People sure get excited about our little Willys Jeeps.  $100,000 cars everywhere that don't get a second glance.  100s of thumbs up when a group of Willys go by.

Here are some photos of Jeeps in our group that were able to make it.  Down the road, a couple more 3As would be nice!

Tom, we would have liked to meet you.  Maybe another time.

Tim
