A 1967 CJ-5 with a 4 diesel
« on: May 06, 2014, 10:29:42 PM »
What would be the value of a 1967 CJ-5 with a perkins diesel 4 cyl? 500$?
I will add a photos later. Seller said that it was running fine but the fuel tank was leaking so he can't show it running. Fuel tank is removed.

Does the motor will be better then my hurricane in my DJ-6?

Serial number start with 8310

The steering column does'nt look original.
It has three speed by the shifting pattern.

Real nice.  I'm not sure about the diesel compared to the Hurricane.  If it were me, the cost of diesel fuel may be a consideration.

I think the price depends on whether the Perkins is any good and therefore it is dependent on whether it runs.  The Perkins is definitely more durable than the F head but is also way more expensive to rebuild.  Power wise, not much of a difference.

The tub appears to be cobbled up rather well with the hard top welded to the windshield frame and perhaps the tub also.  Homebrew?  If you just want to run it as is, that may not be a problem but if someplace down the road the plans include a restoration, it is going to be a lot of extra work and probably a new windshield frame.  Rust?  From the photos, it doesn't look too bad but you should check it closely.  If the floors and hat channels are still good, the rest is likely ok.  They typically rust in all the same places as the flatties: sills, floors, rear body mounts, and the sandwiched rear cross member.

Price?  Without actually seeing it run, I definitely wouldn't go over $1000.  If it is rusted out and doesn't run, your $500 may be on the mark.  If it does run and is largely rust free, maybe $2500.  As noted, it would still require a lot of work for a restoration.

The seller is asking 500$!!!

It is just not a good timing for me to buy it now. I would be in a better position to buy it in a month. I don't have a place to put it. I'm going to get my CJ-6 parts jeep in two weeks. The garage will be full.

If I can buy it, my plan will be to "transplant" the perkins engine into my DJ-6. I will scrap the left-over.

I can't title it and the seller does'nt have proper files.

One of the jeep sites had a thread where a fellow was rebuilding/refurbishing a Perkins...darned if I can remember where ....but if I do I'll post it....

I did find that they are 58 HP at 2400 RPM...no mention of the torque....

Found it...right under my nose!!

If you don't grab it while you can, you'll regret it later.
Buy it, yank the engine and any good parts and haul the carcas to the scrap yard. It's a CJ-5, they're a dime a dozen. No need to preserve the hulk.
You could probably strip it and dispose of it before your other parts Jeep shows up.

I'm working for a company named Metso based in Finland. The original name of the company was Valmet.  :-?

I just found this;

In Finland, starting in the late-1970s, Wagoneers were usually sold with a Valmet 411 Diesel engine

Is it a coincidence? No! It's destiny! I need to get this diesel engine.... ;D ;D

Metso is a pretty amazing company, so was Valmet.  Valmet made a rifle that allowed you to remove the barrel and change calibers with a system similar to today's popular over under shotguns.  Always wished I had bought one...
Climbs trees, hides in the long grass, hangs out with wet dogs...

I may get it sooner then I though. I'm looking to go get it between May 26 - May 30.
The seller posted it on facebook and too much people are interested by it so
I called today and told him that I will be able to grab it in two weeks.

My finger's are crossed.
