I will post questions tomorrow.

After looking at Kirk's photos,  this is my plan for this patch.     I will be welding where the blue "stitching" is drawn on.

The bottom will essentially be flat,   no overlapping.

The lip is too wide currently,   and will be narrowed.

On patch for the step.    It looks from photos like there is a "notch" cut in the corner.    Does this look about right?    (the notch marked with red)

In the first photo,  I had mistakenly tucked the 90deg "corner piece" under the side panel,   I think it is supposed to be on outside of side panel?  (blue markup in 2nd photo)

Kirk's photo

Blue arrow shows the corner piece on outside of side panel.

It appears the floor extends under the step.  That probably helps stiffen it up a little.   If not rusted,  would it extend out further  (marked in green)

Are those nuts stock?   or something added by PO?  (pointed to with red arrows)

One more question.   What is the purpose of what looks like a big rivet head in Kirk's first photo?   Something to do with toolbox maybe?

Here are a couple photos that might help a little, but may lead to new questions.  The steps are original.  I did replace the tops.  The rear tab was remade, but is correct.   The floors are new, so I'm not sure how the flange/edge should end under step.  On my first tub, I replaced the floors and just bent it over like it is in Kirkski's photo.

The dual holes...these are not standard on a 3A floor.  They look similar to the drain holes on an M-38, but they are perpendicular to the side wall of the tub.  I believe the holes on an M-38 are parallel to the side wall of the tub.

I have no idea what the rivet looking item is.

The two holes are for the side steps. The "rivet" is the rubber plug inside the tool compartment.

Thanks Tim,  definitely confirms the "rear tab" should be on outside of body,   but what is the purpose of that hole?  My original has it also,  but I can not guess why?

Side steps.  That makes sense.  Never had a set of those, but considered adding them to the current project.

There is a rubber plug in the tool compartment? Dang...I learned something new.

Jeepfever, Good Question.  I have no idea why the tab has the hole, but have wondered the same thing.

I do not know the reason for the hole in the tab but some CJ-3As do not have that hole.

I feel like I can finally see the light at end of tunnel on a milestone (removing the tub from frame)

The passenger side is mostly welded,  just a few small details, and some more grinding on the welds.

Today, I rough-welded in a patch on the driver-side step.   Still have some more welding to do on that.  Then some work on the fuel opening, and the brackets on inside,  and that side will be mostly finished also.

I wanted to be sure the tub was mostly complete,  before removing from frame.    Oh darn,  forgot,  one major repair on Hoover is the toolbox,   but I will not do that before removing tub.

I got a little time this weekend to work on Hoover.   While working on fuel opening,  I noticed these holes.   Are they stock?   I can't imagine what they might be used for.

Those holes could have been drilled for a chain to gas cap to keep from losing the cap?
