Ok,

Got another one: like many of you, I've been grateful for Brian Hainer (@metalshaper) for the information in his videos.  Following his D44 rebuild, he tightens the pinion nut to 100 ft-lbs in order to test bearing pre-load.

Manual says to tighten to between 200 and 220.

Presuming I should stick with the instructions from the manual.  thoughts?

i'd go with the manual. at 100 pounds i didn't know my top pinion baring was bad. glad i went above that to find out

So the solution was to get in it and drive?!

That's the type of fix I like!  Keep it rolling!

i just hope the throw out bearing i just did on my 48 goes as easy. i won't know for another year or so till it runs.

Scout,

Thank you for the update. I'm really glad to hear you've decided to keep the site going. That's great news for all of us who have learned so much from your knowledge over the years.

I also wanted to clarify what I meant by my offer. My intention was never to copy your work or compete with your site.

As you probably know, I've been rebuilding and preserving CJ3APage. My thought was that, if you ever decided to retire your site, perhaps some of your technical articles, guides, application lists, and other reference material could live on through CJ3APage, with your permission and with full credit given to you as the author.

One of the reasons I feel so strongly about this is that we've already lost valuable Willys resources over the years. For example, the jeepsurreygala.com website completely disappeared, along with a tremendous amount of valuable information about the DJ-3A. Once those sites are gone, much of that knowledge is simply lost.

I believe your work is an important part of the Willys community, and it would be a shame to see that knowledge disappear someday. My goal has always been preservation, not ownership.

I've come to realize that preserving the technical knowledge of our Willys community is just as important as preserving the Jeeps themselves.

Hopefully, that day is still many years away. I'm genuinely happy to hear that Old Jeep Carbs will continue, and I wish you and your family all the best.

So little time with so much to do impacts us all, and I feel I, and maybe a lot of members and guests, take it for granted just how much time and knowledge, and dedication, it takes to "entertain" and "teach" us thru this site.  THANK YOU Pascal, and ALL involved.  My coffee is back tasting great in the mornings with my side of the CJ3A page added again.  THANK YOU!

Thanks for the offer. I just this morning renewed the domain name. I've decided to keep it current and going as long as I can.

Every time I fix one thing, I seem to discover two more that need attention!

Same thing happens with my 3A... I can't figure out why! 😄

...I can't promise I'll fix everything overnight, but little by little we're catching up on years of backlog....

Wait!  You're saying you actually need to sleep at some point?!

Seriously, Thank you.  Glad you're on it!

Scout,

First of all, I'm truly sorry to hear about your wife's condition. Family always comes first, and I wish you, your wife, and your family strength and peace during this difficult time.

I wanted to ask you something. Since you mentioned that OJC may eventually be taken offline, have you thought about what will happen to all of the technical information you've built over the years?

Your articles, carburetor information, and all the knowledge you've shared have helped countless Willys owners, including many members here on CJ3APage. It would be a real shame if that information were ever lost.

If you ever decide that you'd like to preserve it for future generations of Willys enthusiasts, I'd be honored to help. Whether that's archiving the material or incorporating selected technical articles into CJ3APage (with your permission and full credit, of course), my goal is simply to make sure your knowledge and contribution to the Willys community are never lost.

There's absolutely no rush, and no pressure whatsoever. I completely understand that your focus needs to be on your family right now. I just wanted you to know that the offer is there whenever the time is right.

Thank you for everything you've done for the Willys community over the years.

Take care,

Pascal
