I am puzzled about how the windshield vent closes on the 3A. Mine didn't close all the way so I changed the gasket to one from Walcks. The old one was fatter but the new one still doesn't get me to the point that I can close the vent tight. Looks like I should be able to cam over the opening lever but sure looks like it would break to push it that hard. Would like to be able to close it so the vent doesn't rub on the hood when the windshield is down. Can someone tell me how this is supposed to work?

When I installed the seal here I had to use the handle to "lock" the vent closed (or it would stay open, similar to your pic). Now that time has passed the seal has formed nicely around the opening and the vent will stay shut even if the handle is not locked down. Do you have the handle assembly on yours or are parts missing?

My CJ3A has all as Ryan's and I've been dissappointed in that "cam" design. Pretty worthless. John

Steve,
I had a similar issue to yours when I installed a new seal.

Try removing the hinge screws, center the vent on the new seal, lock it in place with the handle, then reset the hinge screws.  Leave it closed for a while. 

This solved my problem.  It now seals and sits like Ryan's, even after opening and closing it.

Being impatient I just added a couple of washers between each hinge and the windshield frame so it would stand off a bit.....it closes well but sure isn't "air tight".. Sad
