Here's a pretty informative write-up and original Willys service bulletins to help identify that Willys barn find you just discovered.

http://circlekf.com/kfhandbook/kfoci%20handbook-pdf%20files/KFOCI%20HANDBOOK%20V...

I tried to upload the actual PDF here but the file size exceeded the site's limitation. Not sure if it would be appropriate for a moderator to permanently post it somewhere on the 3A page or not.

Hi,

my CJ3A, SN 38604, has been produced earl in 1950. I cannot find any more precise information - month for instance.

Has somebody some figure. The owners of the nearest SN in the database have no detail.

Thanks.

There is a possible typo in Bob Westerman's book during this time period. Based on his other data,  I will speculate that 38604 was built in early to mid September 1949.

Hi Bob,

Page 60.

CJ-3A 392xx Estimated build date mid-November 1949.

Followed by,

CJ-3A 409xx Estimated build date mid-October 1949.
CJ-3A 415xx Estimated build date early November1949.

The timelines seem out of sink with the listed serial numbers,
So I guessed that you might mean 392xx was actually mid-September?

Tim

I see what you are saying. That is not a typo. Those entries were derived from data obtained from surviving original vehicles. Even when the data did not fit the expected pattern, I still included it. Maybe the vehicle wasn't so original after all. Maybe someday the data will make sense. In any event the data is there.
