6 volt to 12 volt

hey,

 i have a 1948 cj 2a that i just got. it's missing the generator. but came with a 12 volt battery. so in theory i should be able to swap the 6 volt starter solenoid  to a 12 volt model and add in a 12 volt generator or 12 al.t right ?  seems easy enough ?

There's an article covering this on the 3B Page.  The starter can be left but it will wear faster and eventually need replacing (possible damage to the ring gear too).  12V charging system, a resistor for the coil (or a coil with internal resistor) and bulbs.

thanks, i'll check it out. the only item left was the starter, so replacing the rest won't be an issue.
