Cushman Scooter project

I didn't know it was a thing, but after retiring back to Alabama, a guy I knew from HS is a Cushman collector (he's got over 20 I think) and they have reunions and rallies too.

As I was looking at your album, I noticed links to the side.  I copied the "medium" link (left click in window to highlight, then right click to copy) and then just pasted here.  You'll want to ensure it has the img and /img in brackets at the front and end of the address to make sure it posts.  Then preview to see if it works.

The car is very strange to me, I have never been like this. I am wondering where is the brakes of the car? Or the car has no brakes. Sorry I didn't see the brakes.

It is a scooter and they made them from 1936-1965. Mine is a 4hp engine. The brakes are on a hub inside the rear wheel on right side and the lining is attached to the hub and shoes are pulled by a rod that is connected the small pedal you see sticking up on the right side for what would be a floorboard. The rod is one piece and there is a small tab on it and a spring attached to a cross member that pulls it back. Very primitive but it works.  Here is a link to the brake lining set up

Shouldn't the tag be located by the "bracket in the bottom tag holes" to bring it up to the light and between the split bars?  Cushmans and Vespas bring back great younger years experiences.  Thanks for sharing your project.  Have fun with it.

Probably but it's a moot point. This thing will never be out at night. I doubt it put out enough light to see the tag anyway. Florida is number one state for pedestrian,boating,motorcycle and bicycle accidents so daytime risk only for me

I hear ya.  I live in South Dade and for the same reasons I won't be doing scooters or motorcycles any more.  What area of Florida are you in?

Determined that my magnets in the flywheel had weakened to making no spark. I got a used flywheel that has good magnets and also decided to put new carb on even through the other ran fine except leaking which they all do eventually. Drained all gas and filtered new gas. Just too bloody hot right now to work on it. Shop is o.k but working is knocking the stuffing out of me.

Well I have a jeep and a cushman. Not getting a horse! Hopefully will get scooter going tomorrow. That looks like a trailster scooter that has been stripped down quite a bit.
