T-98 or T-18 4 speed transmission swap
« on: July 21, 2016, 03:50:16 PM »
I can get this transmission pretty cheap and was wondering if it can be put into a cj3a. The owner says it a bolt up except for a new pilot bearing for the shaft to line up. Has anyone ever done this swap? 1st and reverse are granny gears and 2-4th are synchronized. A 4 speed sounds nice.

Go to Herm the Overdrive Guy's site
He has a bunch of info on various transmissions and what it takes to put them in various Jeeps

I have been doing a little checking and it looks like more trouble than whats it's
worth.

Unless your rock crawling you really do not need it. It will not bolt up on either end unless this was from a real 4 cyl, 4 speed cj5. With adapters it can be done, and extensive floor mods, crossmember alterations, driveshaft shortening/lengthening.
