Don't give in.  The cable can be adjusted.  The cable, fulcrum and fork can all be replaced without removing the engine.  It would be a little tricky because of poor access, but it is possible.

I have an adjustable mirror on a stick.  Pretty handle in areas like this.

If you pull the small pin out of the clevis, your cable will flop down and allow you get a wrench on it.

You can do it....you got it timed and running... That was a major milestone!

Find a small punch or drift or even a nail and push it out......or grab the other end with pliers or side cutters and pull it out.....I know it's tight in there.....

SSG,
You are pretty rusty down there.  Drill it out, then pick up a new pin.  You could shoot a little PB Blaster or your favorite penetrating fluid on some of those parts.  It will help when trying to break stuff free.  This type of stuff happens to all of us.  If you get a chance,  check out 1955CJ-5s thread in the project section.  It's called...To Rusty To Save? Lots of good stuff and many challenges that he works through.  It may show you...you're not alone.

We all get frustrated with these things. Sometimes you just need to step back from the grind.  Relax a while, and realize...this is suppose to be a fun passtime.  Then head back out and tackle each task with conviction.

Thanks guys. I'll give it another shot tomorrow or the next day. Got a friend that cab have this thing done and running in hours but he unfortunately lost his house last year to a house fire while his wife was deployed. He's almost done rebuilding and will have time to help. I won't sell her till he goes through it.

but fun, the body on mine is pretty much junk, but once I get all the pieces put back together, mechanically it'll be a fun ride again, something that I never minded if I bounced off a tree and kept on going.    now years down the road if I ever do a body restore, that would change.
cheaper than one of those big razors or ranger and a lot more classy
