Why Willys, why?
« on: October 17, 2013, 11:56:35 AM »
As I was yanking the '49 apart, I noticed that there are 2 styles of shifter boot retainer rings. The one on my '49 has the sides folded down. On my 53, the sides are cut straight. Both have the asterisks * stamped in them. Just one more thing to keep in mind if you are doing a 100% correct restoration. ;)

I've never seen the straight edged version before.  The two '49s, one '46 and a '48 2A tub all have the bent edge style.  Maybe this is a late 3A change?

My late '51 has the cut edges.  The one on my reproduction tub was a full circle (not yet bent) that I cut off to match my original one.

It must be a leftover from the 2As then. It appears only the 49 3As have them. Am I safe to say this? The data we have points to this.

I would think so, to say that Willys was a frugal company would be an understatement.
