correct fasteners for footman loops?

I know the correct fasteners for the footman loops were slotted head screws. I was inspecting the body on my '49 today to see how much damage I need to fix on it and I came across this on the tailgate. 3 of the 4 footman loops use phillips head screws and this one uses both styles.  :o The rest on the body use slotted screws. Just another monkey wrench thrown in the works.  ;D These have never been removed either.

Maybe they opened the wrong box and had to use them anyway?

Are all the phillips heads mixed with slots or do some have two phillips?

My '51 has little acorn nuts on the inside, but only on the tailgate...and the screws are slotted just like the one you have pictured...no phillips..

The other 3 on the tail gate use 2 phillips. The other footman loops on the body and grille have slotted heads. none of the nuts are acorn nuts on this jeep. They all use regular nuts, even the footman loop for the grille.

Ok, I checked my '53s original tailgate and that had slotted screws and acorn nuts. I checked a 53 or 54 3B tub and it uses the same phillips screws and no acorn nuts.

Hey GG,
I may be wrong, but I swear I read somewhere that the original tailgate did not have the holes for the footman loops.  They just had those little dimples that you sometimes see on the top of the wheel wells.

This would lead me to believe the footman loops could be added if the owner wanted to have a top, but were not neccessarily standard.  Maybe your footman loops were added later and those were the screws a PO had on hand.

There were knock-outs in place if you didn't order a top with it. I suspect that this jeep had a factory installed top because the bolts for the door risers are still there and they are marked TR like all the other original bolts on the jeep.

Heck, I don't know then Nate. :-/  

All the footman loops that were still in place on my '49 were attached with standard head screws.  No Phillips heads to be found.

That could be a possibility. I'm not sure if you could have ordered only a half cab from the factory? Anyone know? I was under the impression it was only a full top or no top from the factory.
