OIL SEAL REMOVAL

The last task after replacing parts, gaskets, cleaning, and painting my Transfer Case was to slide in new shift rod seals. Of course while seating it the rubber seal caught the shift rod cut and I mangled it. Short of taking the TC apart can I carefully drill a series of small holes in the seal to weaken it and then remove it with needle nose pliers or is drilling it too risky?     :exclamation]

I would pull it apart. you are already there, xfer is out and accessible, no reason not too.
