Just trying to post photos. This is what I found when I took the diff cover off the "beautifully restored jeep".

the ring gear bolts were that loose?
Well, it's a good thing you looked in there. What else have you found half way done? Did you drop the pan and check the main and rod bolts?

The rebuilt engine wasn't rebuilt at all. I had to discard the block, crank and cam. 1and 2 main bearing caps were switched, only 1/2 of a thrust bearing installed and on the wrong side and on and on...... Those bolts on the diff were just like that when I took the cover off. The heads were just getting shiny from rubbing on the housing. This Jeep was a mess!!

Holy cow! That's incredible! Something doesn't look right with the spider gears either. The cupped washer doesn't look right. That's a candidate for a complete overhaul. Makes you wonder what the other differential looks like and, as Carl said, what the engine looks like.

I rebuilt the dana 41. The front end I also rebuilt. It is all in pieces and I am just starting back together. There was also a spun rod bearing in the engine. This has been the Jeep from Hell so far. I bought as a fully restored Jeep. What a surprise.

Mac,
Thats just a cryin shame. Comin from one that had a hell of a time with a rebuild, I got ya man. Hang in there, the good news is that when its done it'll have your fingerprints on everything, and it 'll be right.

Holy Moley! For that kind of money I'd epect to be able to get in and drive from the left coast to the right coast with nothing but an oil change.

Am planning to go to Washington St. to have a go at him in small claims court. Lots of guys have been helpful and I have kept real good records. This guy is a bigshot in WA. so maybe he should have some exposure. I sure couldn't lie to someone about something I had for sale. He must be able to disconnect his conscience.
