Fuel strainer

I'm thinking about installing an aviation fuel strainer, with a drain, in the steel fuel line inside the engine bay. I would use a compression to 1/8 or 1/4 fine thread connector on each side. USE? To drain ethanol-induced water from the low point in the system. WHADDAYA THINK?

Lowest point.....as in on the frame rail? I wonder if there is room back by the tank.......not much room down by that exhaust pipe and master cylinder....A water separator sound like a good idea with the gas they sell nowadays.

How do airplane guys do it? I know the pilot gets to tap off a little fuel from the tanks before flight, maybe a simple tee in the line and a drain tap might do it too..

The device I install will have a sump with a drain at the bottom. A bracket will attach it to the fender. One option I'm not particularly fond of is the install a "tee" with a simple push-in-to-open valve which is standard for fuel sampling on an airplane wing tank. I'll cut a section for it out of the primary feed pipe and secure the lines with the connectors I described. With the water situation I think I need to start treating the old jeep like an aircraft and do a complete "Pre-drive Inspection" every day with a fuel sample taken. If I detect water, I'll simply drain into a container till nothing but fuel shows up. SOP. I'll fully document the experiment.

How about a marine filter/water separator?  There are a couple with clear bowls, that can be drained.  Might be a better choice for a Jeep.
