Carter W-O Rebuild question

Was in the middle of rebuilding my Carter W-O and noticed something different about mine that is not in the picture of the Carter W-O of the instructions I was going by. In the picture on the instructions on the Main Body there appears to be a tube sticking out that goes from the Main Body to the Throttle Body. When looking at my Main Body there isn't a tube on it. Does some of these carbs have it and some don't. It seems like a key part to the assembly. I attached pictures to show what I mean. The part circled in blue is the tube. Also in the rebuilt kit there is no spacer included in it that goes between the Main Body and Throttle body. My carb didn't have one when I took it apart, is that not used anymore when you rebuild them?

I had the same question a few years ago, but couldn't find the thread.  I think it may have been on the old 3A forum, which is long gone.  I freaked out enough to add a small piece of tubing in this location, only to find I wasted my time.

You're good.  There are slight differences on the bowl portion of these things.  I've rebuilt several Carter WOs at this point, and only one has the short tube shown in the above photo.

Thanks Athawk... Before rebuilding the carb it was pouring gas out of the outside and inside of it, so thought that might have been the reason why. What about the throttle body spacer? Is that needed or am I ok with just using a the double gasket?

 I wouldn't be confident enough to leave the spacer out of the equation.  There is a lip on the bowl portion of the Carter.  Without the spacer, I'm not sure if the gaskets would be enough to tighten it to the throttle body, though I have never tried it that way.

There is probably no place that sells just the insulator. Tried googling it and having no luck

[size=12]Hey Mudviper. Just saw this post. The tube your curious about is a vent. In later designs it was determined that the necessary venting action could be accomplished without it. As far as deleting the insulator goes, it is necessary for precisely the reason it is called an insulator. It and the two gaskets keep the heat in the bowl/main body section so the fuel in the bowl, when called for, is of a proper temperature to atomize correctly in the airstream going to the cylinders. Proper fuel temperature is also why there is a heat riser valve in the exhaust manifold. To quickly bring the fuel in the bowl up to a proper temperature. However, if stuck open, that heat will cause the fuel in the bowl to boil and flood the carburetor much as you have described.[/size][/b]
