Any comments on this tub?

Found this tub on CL and it looks like it's in pretty good shape. Kind of sounds like a repop though. What do you guys think?

There are a bunch of small details that separate a repro from the real thing. Most of the photos are not detailed enough, or from the wrong angle to see..... except for the dash photo. From the beginning of CJ production up to 1952 there is a notch in the center of the cowl sheetmetal where it bends down over the dashboard. There is no notch in this tub for sale so it it very likely to be reproduction. Further examination would tell for sure.

Matto,
ï¿½I wish I would have responded prior to BobW because you are stepping out on pretty thin ice if you question his judgement about CJs. I have worked closely with two MD Juan reproduction tubs, mine and one other. On both of them the metal stamping or embossing, if you will, around the hole in the dash for the emergency brake handle is uniform, causing the brake handle to point directly to the rear. On production models the embossing is canted towards the driver, or high on the right side of the hole and low on the left side of the hole. In pic #7 of the tub in CL it is canted towards the driver. This item alone, caused me to cut the cowl and dash from my repro tub. I then cut the cowl and dash from my original tub and rewelded it to my repro tub. Hence, my MD Juan tub has the notch in the center of the cowl sheetmetal as described by BobW. Also, neither repro tub I worked with had the two D rings to secure the tool box lid. In pic #8 they are quite visible. I liked the original D rings better than what swivel latch offered by MD Juan so I changed the complete lid and the additional D ring to my new repro tub. Neither of the repros had the pockets for the top bows installed. The one on CL has all four. And lastly, the opening over the tranny looks finished all around. Mine, and others I have spoken with, had to rework that opening in order for the tranny to center properly and allow for the low range and 4WD levers to function properly. I would appreciate BobW's and anyone's thoughts on those items. I must add that both my new repro tub and the other one I worked with were early MD Juans. Possibly later versions had the changes incorporated.

In the pic below if you look closely you can see the notch in the sheetmetal BobW talked about that came with the implanted original cowl and dash. It's just above and to the left of the emergency brake handle. You can also see the two D rings for the tool box lid. Take a look at the tranny opening. It is less than perfect and parts of the rounded edge finished is gone.

Calvin has made some good observations that I overlooked the first time. Perhaps this is a 1952 or later tub with the tool indents added.

Ummm... I posted this up on the cj2a page. its an early cj2a tub for a column shift jeep.look at the size of the opening for the steering column. I think it might be made from a few tubs though because he says it 3a wheel wells.

G.G.,  I just looked at your post on the 2A and it's almost 2 weeks old. I thought it was a new add. :(
In pic #5 it looks like the the SN# and body tags are still on the tub, I'm gonna E mail the seller and see if I can get a number off it.
It sounds like the column shifter hole was added to this tub.
Bob, I see what you and Calvin point out about the notch in the lip above the E brake.
This tub is in far better shape than mine but Middletown NY is about a 300 mile round trip for me and $1500 for a Franken tub is not enough motivation for the ride.

Isn't that a CJ2 starter switch mounted in the hump on the floor in photo's 3-4 and 5?

The owner says the tags  on the firewall are from a 2A and are not original to this tub.
Carl, that does look like a 2A switch, have the same switch on a 3B too.
