Matto,
I wish I would have responded prior to BobW because you are stepping out on pretty thin ice if you question his judgement about CJs. I have worked closely with two MD Juan reproduction tubs, mine and one other. On both of them the metal stamping or embossing, if you will, around the hole in the dash for the emergency brake handle is uniform, causing the brake handle to point directly to the rear. On production models the embossing is canted towards the driver, or high on the right side of the hole and low on the left side of the hole. In pic #7 of the tub in CL it is canted towards the driver. This item alone, caused me to cut the cowl and dash from my repro tub. I then cut the cowl and dash from my original tub and rewelded it to my repro tub. Hence, my MD Juan tub has the notch in the center of the cowl sheetmetal as described by BobW. Also, neither repro tub I worked with had the two D rings to secure the tool box lid. In pic #8 they are quite visible. I liked the original D rings better than what swivel latch offered by MD Juan so I changed the complete lid and the additional D ring to my new repro tub. Neither of the repros had the pockets for the top bows installed. The one on CL has all four. And lastly, the opening over the tranny looks finished all around. Mine, and others I have spoken with, had to rework that opening in order for the tranny to center properly and allow for the low range and 4WD levers to function properly. I would appreciate BobW's and anyone's thoughts on those items. I must add that both my new repro tub and the other one I worked with were early MD Juans. Possibly later versions had the changes incorporated.
In the pic below if you look closely you can see the notch in the sheetmetal BobW talked about that came with the implanted original cowl and dash. It's just above and to the left of the emergency brake handle. You can also see the two D rings for the tool box lid. Take a look at the tranny opening. It is less than perfect and parts of the rounded edge finished is gone.
