"It looks like it is into the oil. You need to robe the oil pan and find pit where the crack comes through to the inside. It can be easily stitched but metal shavings cannot be allowed inside the crankcase. It is possible you may find the crack extends into a main bearing saddle or some where that could explain the cause of the crack. "
