My 1952 m38
« on: April 10, 2015, 07:41:33 AM »
Well today is the day I get my m38 out of winter storage.  I have the use of a friends garage for the next 3 weeks while he is gone so I have a lot to do in a short time. So here is my list

1)Pull old engine
2) New master cylinder
3) front disk brakes
4) overdrive
5) overdrive to pto
6) install new motor

I would like to get the jeep repainted as well but I am not sure that is going to happen this year.  I will up date with photos later.

For those who haven't seen it, Bill has a very nice blue(!!) M38 equipped with the ultra-coveted Ramsey winch. I'm very much looking forward to watching these updates. PICS, BILL, PICS!!

Ok here are the photos from today.

Uhaul trailers are almost to wide for a jeep

Just thought this was a neat photo, getting ready to unload

Work started

Pile of parts growing

Getting closer

I both love and hate the bolt in floor, it take forever to unbolt it but it saves a lot of time in the long run

How I left it tonight.  Motor is ready to come out I just ran out of steam.  I am working alone to it takes longer

You really dove right in! Don't worry, all of the New England flatfender enthusiasts are only counting on you to get this thing back together so we can go for a trail ride soon. No pressure.

Is that ammo box next to the passenger's seat bolted down? I need to come up with something like that. Do you like it there or is it a nuisance for the passenger?

And I laughed when I saw your U-haul trailer comment. U-haul's older trailers are a couple inches narrower than the newer models. If anyone has to rent a trailer try and find the oldest, crustiest one on the lot as you'll be glad you did.

I unknowingly grabbed a new one for the 1st NH ride and I think it took 4 tries and 4 guys to get my 3A centered on the trailer enough so it wouldn't fall off. Even then if the thing had shifted so much as an inch either way it would have meant complete disaster.

Ryan the ammo box is bolted down.  It really does come in handy and does not get in the way at all.

I hope to have it done long before the trail ride.  The engine should be out later today and I will probably start working on the brakes.

Very cool M38.  And a build thread with a time limit.  Gotta love that!

What's up with the old motor?

I have rebuilt the motor twice and each time it ends up with metal in the oil.  Dont know where it is coming from so I have given up on this block.

Sweet Jeep, I love the color as well. Wish my Jeep had the removable floor pans...

Ok the brakes are all done.  They seem to be working.  I still need to bleed them better.  Sorry I was busy and didnt take photos.  The swap was fairly simple with only some minor issues.
