The DMV may want a VIN verification so be sure to have your ser. # on it.  You might need to have the PO's signing over to you notarized.  Better plan on a trip to the DMV just to see what all they will require - or just call them.  My experience up here is that they can usually spell it out for you on the phone which may save you some brain damage.  Can't wait to see the finished product!

Sweet that it's a '49 - you'll get to have the cool "yellow on black" '49 plates again!

Tumbleweed, that is my goal. At this stage, I see no reason why I wouldn't get it done.

The last big challenge will be getting it titled. The rest of the story...

Bought it from a guy(who never transferred the title)...who bought it from a girl...who's father owned it, but he died. I have a title with his name...and an official document that gave the daughter "Power of Attorney"...and a bill of sale with her signature... Signed over to me by the guy I bought it from. Still with me?

Hopefully titling it will be easier than the sequence I just laid out. :-?

Hawk

Either go with the story or try and get it titled through one of those title agencies that do untitled vehicles. I had the same instance with mine when it changed hands twice before getting to me - DMV had a bit of a problem figuring things out but in the end it's all good - title in my hand.

Great job - really jealous as I'm still stuck in first gear with mine. Paint job gave me some ideas.

In SD, I had to go back to the previous guy and have him fill out a affidavit and get it notarised for DMV's  satisfaction. They are scared of being sued for titling a stolen vehicle. Chain of ownership , all legal first or no title. Good luck Hawky. Oilly

Thanks fellas.  Excellent ideas.  I did forget to mention that I also have a copy of the death certificate of the original titled owner.  To be honest, I'm kind of excited to lay this out over at the DMV.  Should be good for some real fodder. ;D ;D

Hey Hawk,

I was thinking about your story above and I realized that this would make a much better blues song and not a rockabilly song! The more I read over this the funnier it gets!

Hope you don't have any major issues going legal! At FCT we should gather around the ice chest and share our stories about getting titles. I would like to hear RICKG's story too!

Tom,
The paint finish is a standard gloss base coat with a satin clear coat.

Except for the turn signals, the harness is all hooked up. All lighting is working. The grill is done. The gauges and dash are nearly complete. Here are some detail shots...

I took the speedometer apart to clean and lube it. Unfortunately, I broke the glass putting it back together. This will delay finishing the gauge cluster, but I did find this...

A Mr. Burk looks to have taken this apart on a couple occasions. In 1948 and again in 1953. He signed his name on the inside of the housing. I love this stuff. I've hidden similar markings all over this Willys. Hopefully the next owner will get a kick out of it as much as I do.

I assume that was the recorded mileage on that date. Someone was driving the wheels off that buggy.
Nostalgic find for sure, Hello Mr. Burk where ever you are!!

Thanks to all for looking in.

Rick, That's a better explanation (mileage) than I came up with.  I thought it might be a part number he replaced.

Randy, I'll probably have to do the 'shake down' run...or at least be with her.  I think this thing is pretty mechanically sound, but I'm still nervous about her being stranded somewhere.  Her daily driver is a manual transmission, so she'll be fine once she figures out that the 1st gear position she is used to will make her go backwards on this thing. ;D

Really looks nice Athawk11. I wish mine was as clean looking as yours. Mine has a older repo tub on it and the PO did not take the time to fit everything properly especially the tranny area.

Thanks Migel!  Go to the 'Once You've Joined" section and tell us a little about yourself.

Birddog, Yours is every bit as nice as this one.  It's just been used.  This one will have the quality soon enough. ;)

Well, wrapping up the Whitey project. I finally had some time to install the glass in the windshield. I dont know about others, but this chore is a real *rear end kicker for me. This was a good solid 2-1/2 hours of sweating, cursing, and bleeding, but its in.

There are still some minor issues to work out, so its not officially a runner. My eBay purchased vacuum wiper motor doesnt function. Have to get new glass for the speedometer. Still need to figure out why the fuel gauge acts like an ammeter. Need to re-spray the clear coat on the hood. (It was too shiny.) Paint the raised Willys lettering on the hood. Weather seal on the windshield vent. Need to reset the toe-in now that everything is installed. Still need to pick out a horn and hook it up. Rear view mirror. Hood blocks. Little stuff mostly.

Most importantly, (at least to my wife) I still need to get all the bling-bling installed. Doggy stickers, bottle openers, etc

Glamour Shots
