I got the grille done. I thought it would be the best part to paint first since it would give me a feel for how the rest of the jeep would look. I love the color.



I'm not liking the back so much now. The Jerry can sit up way too high and the spare tire looks ugly there. I'll have to do something with this stuff after the body is back on. This picture is taken as if you were another vehicle following it. The passenger tail light is hard to see.

I like the color too.. what green is it?

I think you may like the back once you start using it. Remember FUNCTION over form is they way they used these old workhorses.

Looks like you have some of that New England sunshine laying around on the ground to make things fun. Can't say I miss it.

Next years Christmas pics are going tpo be pretty cool, with a red and green jeep parked by each other.

It is Rustoleum gloss hunter green. I brushed it on and I can't even tell. It smooths out very nice!

Wow..brushed on and it looks that good? Nice.
I would have guessed it was gonna be called Hunter Green. One of my favorite old school colors for commercial vehicles.

I have been pondering doing the same thing on my m38 for over a year now.  I just now saw this thread.  I am making mine PA DCNR foresty which is very similar.  Always loved the smokey the bear theme.  Mine is going to get repainted in the spring and have some subtle touches made to it for forest service.  Keep up the good work.

Yep, it goes on pretty thick, so it has a good thick layer to protect it from scratches. Easy to touch up too!

Nice Kyle! I might bring this one to the Picnic this year instead of my '53.

Now I'm starting to feel like Randy with the tub repair. Yesterday I took the toolbox off and decided that was too far gone to save. Fortunately, I have a 3B tub with a better one and I can use the original to repair the 3Bs. The 3B also had a good tranny hump area. The one in the '49s tub is so rotted. The purist will be mad about the bigger opening and different tranny cover. Oh well, they'll get over it.

The original toolbox is pretty rotted out along where the hinges would be.

My '53 is in the air, so nothing can get at it.  ;D

I started fixing the toolbox up. A good spot to start and practice a bit. I haven't worked with sheet metal in a few years. It isn't coming out too bad. Just got to finish welding up the rest of the patches in.





And the tranny hump is ready to go too.

The tool box is all done. I had to put a little bondo on it to make is smooth.



And then I noticed the small ribs are bent wrong. Must have been a bad day at the Willys factory then.

Those ribs are made like that for the M-38 decontaminator mounting blocks. They began to show up on CJs too about 1951 or so.

Ok, thanks Bob. I must have never noticed them before on other jeeps. My '53 had no toolbox, so I had nothing to compare too.
