Ok, after some slight modifications, I'm pretty happy with the way the back looks now. You can see both tail lights now if you were following in another vehicle.

That axe head hanging right out there is sure to discourage tailgaters. ;D Perhaps a nice leather sheath would be a good addition?

Only other problem I see is the shovel and axe handles might tend to catch on small branches....The traditional military location might be more practical, or across the windshield lower panel.

I am expecting some period black and white old timey photos of the setup in action soon.. :)

You'll have to wait for photos when I finish painting it.  ;)

As far the handles go, I don't see how that will effect anything? If a branch will catch those, I will probably be cutting it off so it doesn't whip me!  ;D

I figured the Jerry can is enough to scare off tailgaters. But the addition of the axe should help too.  ;D

The spare tire is starting to really fatigue the rear fender sheet metal on my jeep, I'm building a spare tire mount similar to yours. Thanks again for the idea!

Fwiw, It seems a side mounted spare tire is a tree magnet, or is it just me?

I'm pretty sure every part of every Jeep had a magnetic attraction to rocks that day.

No, it doesn't seem too. I have a ratchet strap that I run against them and hook it to each end where the tail gate chains hook to. It keeps them from vibrating and bouncing around. I can get a picture if needed.

I haven't touched this project, as John can attest to. I've had lots of priorities, such as engine shows (yes, engines do come before jeeps here!), fairs and selling my TJ. But now I can finally get to it. In the mean time though, I did score a very nice Warn front shift OD with a PTO adaptor, new gaskets and all the hardware and linkage at a super price! I was planning on getting one anyways for it later. Sometimes sooner is better than later!

I got to see this Willys in the flesh, along with the Pavement Queen and the Jalopy. What a great collection. They are all very cool. And notice the Indian in the background of one of the pics. That's Nate's Dad's toy, among others.

Wish we could have stayed for another day, just to go for rides in all the cool toys. Maybe some other day.
