Thanks!  I wished my first panels looked as good as this does.  But...this tub is a learning experience for me and the GPW tub will get that experience.

Today I did some blasting on the tub.  Now that's a lot of tedious work.  I did this to find the holes and areas that need to be welded before I do the body prep before paint.

Still working on it daily.  Filling a multitude of hole in the tub from a rollbar to fender skirts to who know what else.  I have never seen so many holes in a Jeep or any other vehicle for that matter.  Tedious work this is.

Patched some more holes today and still a lot left to go.  Also out some bolts in four holes that are in the exact spot I need them for the rear seat retaining hooks found on the MB and GPW.  How they are on the DJ/Surrey tub I do not know.

Piece cut out, bolts welded to plate and plate welded back in.



Ground down and ready for paint when I get to that part.

Must be the old school word working skills my Dad taught me from his journeyman carpentry in Germany.   ;)

Been working on the most nearly every day.  Most filling holes of which there were far to many to even count.  I didn't post this as it  would have just been too boring as it was for me to do.

I did mount rear seat pivot bracket and support.  I bolted them in instead of riveting them in as the factory did.  But I did weld the support at the bottom as factory did.




The seat was one I purchased for my GPW but I found out is was for an M38 so this actually worked out in my favor as I am making a DJ into a Military Clone.

Sealed all the seams, welds and welded holes with seam sealer.  Then after it had dried for a couple of days I am starting the Red Oxide primer in preparation for the OD paint.  Then I can set it on the frame and work on the sides and inside of the tub.

That Willys is really coming together nicely.  You should feel very proud.

I know you have a GPW waiting in the wings.  Are you going to keep both?  Are you going to jump into that project as soon as this one is finished?  Or...take a break?

Thanks.  Probably going to sell this one when I am done with the GPW, but that is not happening any time soon.  Not going to rush the GPW.  But will start as soon as this one is done.

More tub work done today.  Finished up a few weld spots that needed attention and painted the underside so it can be mounted on the chassis hopefully tomorrow.

Shot a coat of OD on the tool indents to see how they would look.  Still will need a little touch up after the tub is on.   And got a coat of primer on the grill.  It is a little pitted but not going to change that.

Well today was the day to put the body on.  I thought of many ways short of lifting with what I had and nothing was going to work.  We don't know anyone close and it was Mother's Day.  Julie said she would come out and try to lift it on. 

We picked it up but she couldn't lift it up high enough being a few inches shorter than me.  Wink  So she suggested steps to walk it up.  That worked perfect.  One it went and real easy I might add.  Thanks Sweetheart! 

On one body mount hole was off by about 3/8 of an inch.  Drilled it out to the mounting plate.  All bolted down now.
