Tonight the panel has been trimmed and welded in place on the side panel and riser. I used special clamps to align the floor gaps evenly and tacked those in. Now off to the house to do the dishes as per my text msg from the Wife.  :o

I have seen those clamps advertised...but too late for my project...they seem like an excellent tool for a great result...

I got them at Harbor Freight.� Good price and they really work great.

I think I saw them or something similar at Eastwood...

Either way it looks like they work great...I bought a bunch of vice-grip type clamps, but these would have been better...

The floor panel is in and welds are ground down (not perfect but good enough).



Set the old hat channels on to mark where the new ones go.  I had some made in 8' lengths and made them to fit from there.



New hat channels being welded in place.  I use a metal dowl in place of the u-strap where the body to frame bolts go.



I also welded up some of the many holes.  (more than the whole US Deficite) and took care of some the rust in the body step.

Finished up the hat channels on the passenger side.




Where the body mount bolts went I put in a dowl instead of the u-shaped metal piece the factory used.  There was no wood in these hat channels.

On the drivers side I took more metal out of the floor as I did not have the factory indent that I wanted to keep.  I also took a lot off the side panel as the step was pretty rusted and I am putting tool indents in.

Thanks guys for watching.  Got to get it mostly done by a parade at the Veterans Care Center in Salem, VA and a few parades after through D-Day.

Got the drivers side riser off tonight.  Trying to a do a little each night.  So much bondo as the PO used this rather than to straighten out the body.  I am rectifying this situation as I replace pieces.

It's interesting to see just how those come out...mine was totally rusted where it met the floor and the bed...and about everywhere else...

They were pretty generous with those spot welds....

Worked on the tool indents tonight.  I have the front half and installed it.  I will have to make the rear with some good tips from athawk11.
