resistor
« on: April 15, 2012, 12:00:25 AM »
Forgot to ask about the in line resistor. The only way to getit to run was to by pass the one resistor I had from several years ago. It did seem to work on my truck and it won't work on this cj so h do I get a correct resistor to put in line with the coil to not burn out my points.

By the sounds of it you maybe converted the jeep to 12 volts from 6?  I did the same thing, but was able to buy a coil from NAPA that has the resistor built in, that way I was able to keep the wiring all according to the manual.

It sounds like your coil has the resistor built into the coil. Adding another resistor would make the spark very weak.

Hey Carl, what I was sayin was to remove all the other stuff, put the wiring back together as defined in the manual, and use a coil with the proper resistor built in.  That way all the voltages are correct at the right locations.

Yes, we're both saying the same thing.
