The preservation of "Hoover" - my '51 CJ3A

I think your louver was mistakenly punched out in the wrong location.

That would explain why I could not find, in a quick search, any photos of other '3A's with one in same location.   

Wonder if mine is a early Monday (still recovering) blunder,  or the late Friday (Let's get out of here) blunder?

I have not been on forum for a while.   I started tinkering on Hoover a little yesterday, and reminded me that I have not posted any photos of some progress in past months. (not a lot,  but better than none).

To repair original toolbox,  I cut parts from another one out of a CJ-5

First photo shows the replacement for a rusted hole.  There was a huge bubble gum weld here,  not sure what that was for,  but it had to be cut out.

The rest of photos show the gutter replacement.   I used the original rivets in the D-ring

Last photo shows the toolbox setting in place.  Still need to weld it in.

A friend on '2Apage gave me a CJ5 toolbox.  It had some rust issues of its own,  but some of the gutter was in much better shape than Hoover's.   Apparently early CJ5 toolbox lids are similar,  because I was able to cut out that gutter and weld into my '3A box.

The photo below shows how I used it.

Blue sections were cut from CJ5 box  . .  the red sections had to be made from scratch,  because the CJ5 box was rusted out there also.

It seems to be the hard way sometimes,  but I think it is fun.   I am an amateur,  but watching some of the builder shows on tv,  and build threads on the forums,  gives me a little something to emulate.
