the insulation works well. it still gets a little warm but not hot like before.

Larry, mine seems to be a little higher than that. I am going to put some of that double sided foil insulation  (automotive type) above the muffler up against the floor and see how that works, i already test fit it and it seems to stay up there good between drawbar braces and floor. I  will also get some of that adhesive foil duct tape to finish off the edges so the insulation is not showing were I cut it to size. I then will see how it works.

P.S. thanks for the pic,   BROTHERDAVID

got the cj-3a going today and took her for a spin. all went well. I did notice that the floor in the bed got very hot from the muffler. i havent seen in any of the books a heat shield for this. i was wondering if i had the muffler positioned to high but it seemed to align up real good. the pipe and muffler was a kit purchased from walcks. any advise would be appreciated.

calvin, my fuel gauge is the original from 1953, as for the sending unit it is part# 640694 that i ordered from walcks. Upon more playing around with it it is kind of eratic on the needle. I dont know for sure how good it will be until I drive it around more, and if i run out of gas before it reaches empty on the gauge, O BOY, I think I to will use a whiskey stick and monitor the fuel level until I can really trust it. I'll keep you updated on this as I just finished a total restoration of the jeep and haven't got much drive time yet. she'll be ready to roll for sure on the 4th of july for the local parade.

I installed a new fuel sending unit in my 3a with a 6 volt system. (part#640694). my problem is if I actuate the lever just a small amount it goes to full on the fuel gage. then if I release it all the way down it goes to about 7/8 full on gage then if I move lever up again it goes to full. So the fuel gage is only going from 7/8 - full in the full range of the travel. I have the unit grounded well. Also I believe the fuel gage is good because when I ground out the sending unit wire it goes to full on the fuel gage and when I remove ground off the sending unit wire it goes back to empty.

I was wondering does the jack and lug wrench just lay loose in the tool compartment or was there some kind of bracket that I am missing. I really dont want it sliding around in there so I think I'll sew up some kind of canvas bag for each if there wasn't a mounting bracket and lay them in tool compartment. Any other ideas?

                           thanks, BROTHERDAVID

hey guys i was just wondering. I got my new wiring harness from walcks for my 53 cj-3a and was wondering if the 2 wires that go to the master cylinder switch if it matters wich one the hot wire goes to? I noticed the one wire has power to it all the time even when the ignition switch is off, I asume it does so brake light will work even when ignition is off. THANKS

does anyone have the part # for the thermostat with the air relief in it? I went to napa and they didn't have one. I would use a 160-180 deg. thermostat. thanks

recieved new 6 volt voltage regulator and was wondering if i just bolt it to the fender or if i have to put rubber inbetween it and the fender. the original one had brass like inserts incased in rubber on the original.

thanks for the info. I'll pick some up.

I recently installed new springs on my 53 cj3a front and rear. the jeep now sits @ 1/2 inch higher on the passenger side than the drivers side looking from the back side. there is no body on the frame.
I purchased the springs from kaiser willys part #A614 for the rear springs. I dont recall it leaning like this before but I really didnt pay to much attension.
I guess I was just wondering if they had to settle in after some driving or if my frame is twisted.
