Specialty,

How far in/past the outer edge of your drag link can you drive the plug?

Don't be fooled by the plug coming to a complete stop.  This is the same thing mine did for the same reason Tumbleweed describes above.  The threaded plug would not seat in far enough on the new kit, so I used my old one.

On my old plug, I could drive it in so far that I compressed the spring almost completely...and almost beyond the notch where the cotter pin locks it in.  Note: I didn't leave it in this far. Shocked

Tim, I am using my old plug. I can get it in far enough to get the cotter pin in but the shaft of the bell crank is barely back into the small part of the slot on the drag link. My new one would go in until it bottomed out buy it still had about 1/8 inch to go to get the cotter pin. After comparing the two the new one was about 1/8 inch longer. My question is why is it not going back into the slot further or is that normal as long as the cotter pin is in? Maybe the large part of the drag link slot is wallered out some. I will try to get under there and see how much the spring is compressed and go from there. Thanks

Here are a couple photos of the front connection on my 3As.  Neither appear to sit very deep into the narrow portion of the slot.  On the rear connection, it does sit a bit deeper on both drag links, but not by much..  The green Willys is driven regularly and has had no steering issues.  The black one is a current project, but the chassis has been driven like a bat-outta-hell and I've made it home safely every time.

Hope this helps.

Tim

Tim, That is about the what mine looks so I guess I was just overreacting because like yours the rear is in further. I really appreciate the photos. The steering is something I want to be sure about and not wondering if it's okay for safety reasons. Looking at your pics I am good.  Now as I save a few bucks it  back over to the body until I save up some coins for the knuckle bearings, races, and seals. I may need some help again on that from you guys. Sure helps a lot. Thanks again to everyone.
