Windshield frame pivot bracket question

Print Post
I am reassembling my 3A, and did not have much to start with at the beginning, so there are a few details I need info about.  One is the windshield pivot bracket that bolts to the body.  Is there supposed to be a gasket or anything between the bracket and the body, or do I just bolt the bracket on paint to paint?  Also, which way does the angled windshield retainer bracket bolt on, or will it be obvious when I put the windshield up to it?
thanks!
Pat

Hi Pat,

There is a heavy plate with ribs behind the pivot bracket.  The ribs serve to add a bit of friction.  This plate is attached directly to the tub and through the pivot bracket.  The pivot bracket is attached to the windshield with the large pivot bolt in the center.  You can see the slot orientation on the pivot bracket.  There is a left and right side pivot bracket.  These brackets will only work one way. This will quickly become appearant when you are ready to set the windshield.

Hope this helps.

Where do you find the heavy plate that goes behind the pivot brackets and what is it made of? right now my brackets are metal on metal.

Philip,
I don't know of anyone that makes a reproduction.  I have seen them on eBay a few times, but folks were asking way too much for what is essentially a piece of metal with a couple holes drilled in it.

I made my last set out of some scrap 3/16" steel.  I cut the friction ridges with a hack saw.  Here is a shot looking down...
