Hi...hopefully this is an easy answer...if it's been asked before I appologize.  Can anyone tell me if the front fenders are the same between the CJ2a and CJ3a?
Thanks!

My 3A wears a 2A driver side fender. I did have to trim the bottom area around the shock mount but I did get it to fit and nobody has noticed.

Not sure about the passenger side.

The CJ3A passenger front fender has 2 or 3 design over his production.

I'm sure Bob W will give his inputs about it.

As my fellow 3A aficionados have stated, you should be okay.  The bolt patterns are the same, but you may need to trim around the shock mounts.

The passenger side may require a bit of battery tray trimming to fit right.  Don't worry, it's not much.

The shape around the battery tray is different on a 2A and 3A. The still swap back and forth.

G-gnome,

I have a 2A style (also considered an early 3A) passenger fender on my 3A.  I don’t remember it interfering with the tray, but it’s been too long since this 3A was together.  And the whole thing was a disaster to begin with, so who knows at this point.

When Bob W visited recently, he left me with the impression that there are occasional issues with the 2A fender fitting right against the 3A tray.  We looked for a trim job on my 3A tray but couldn’t see any sign of a modification.

Do you have a 2A passenger fender on one of your rides?

No, mine all have 3A fenders. I think they don't interfere with the battery tray at all. I think it is just the look.

Here is the inside of a 2A fender that I had.

A lot of changes were made to the front fenders as CJ progression took place. CJ-2A front fender splash aprons were additionally bolted to the top and the sides of the frame when compared to the "CJ-3A" fender. Gradually these bolts went away as the CJs evolved. One of the biggest fender changes occurred with the introduction of the simplified CJ frame that happened late in CJ-2A production. The battery tray was shaped differently and "early" CJ-2A right fender splash aprons typically rub on the rear edge of the new style tray. Willys solved this interference by providing a large dimple in the rear face of the splash apron on "late" CJ-2A fenders. The "CJ-3A" right fender splash apron was redesigned to fit around the battery tray better and was also simplified by being made up from less components. For some reason during early CJ-3A production these 3 different right front fenders were used rather interchangeably at the factory. I suspect it may have been because of issues with vendors, hopefully further research will provide the answer.
