I'm seeing a lot of fire extinguisher on ebay and many of them pretend to be made during WWII.

Is there a way to recognize it?
Any stamping on it?

I know Tim and Nate has one.

Here is a link listing the fire extinquishers that were common for MBs and GPWs. According to the TM9-1799, there were quite a few manufacturers supplying them for Jeeps.

I have a Fire Gun -No."O".  Probably not correct for an M38, but would be acceptable for a WWII Jeep.

Yes there is a pretty good search function on the top right of the page, click on advanced search, then put in your keywords(s) not on the google line but on the forum line, skip author and all that stuff and pick the forum you want to search and stuff will pop up. You get the hang of it after a few times and learn to narrow down terms. It also helps to use the back arrow button as it will stay in the topic you are searching. Easier than my explanation is

Very nice Pascal.  There are many here that will suggest you leave it alone.  To each his own on that decision.

On mine, there seemed to be a clear coating of some kind that had deteriorated and developed the patina.  It required the removal of this coating to reveal the shiny brass.  I used a combination of 400 grit to 1500 grit wet/dry sand paper.  The label on the Fire Gun was also brass.  I carefully worked the sand paper on the label so I didn't remove the painted letters.  I was lucky that the paint was mostly recessed and the brass sat proud.  I don't know the make up of your label, so be gentle!  Once I got it clean, I shot it with a couple coats of new Clear Coat rattle can paint that I picked up at the auto parts store.

Some updates;

I took one hour to clean it today.

Here is three pics; first is at startup, second 30 min after and the last is 1 hour after.

I don't know yet if I want to make it beautiful as Tim's one.
