It's been that way for a couple months. Not sure what's going on but it would be nice to have it back!

Historically, "Vern" has had problems with his ISP. I've had occasions where access was not allowed because his alloted bandwidth had been exceeded.
One of these days I'm going to pull a full copy of his site in case it, like a few others in the past, simply disappears. Data on the internet is an ephemeral thing. Here today gone tomorrow - forever.

Seth Petersen had a great web site for kayakers. Then one day it was simply gone, and is still gone more than a year later. I managed to grab most of the content from the Wayback Machine (The Internet Archive) so it's not lost.

I printed the whole content of our website into a pdf just in case.

I will start to do it with vernco, cj3ainfo and other website.

I'm missing the earlycj5.com

Yes, if you click on the link, you will get something. That something is a Google warning. The Vernco site has been infected with junk in the near past. His ISP appears to be doing nothing to fix it.

Here is the analasys of the infections:

"What is the current listing status for vernco.com?
Site is listed as suspicious - visiting this web site may harm your computer.
Part of this site was listed for suspicious activity 2 time(s) over the past 90 days.

What happened when Google visited this site?
Of the 192 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 95 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 2013-10-14, and the last time suspicious content was found on this site was on 2013-10-14.

Malicious software includes 125 exploit(s).

Has this site acted as an intermediary resulting in further distribution of malware?
Over the past 90 days, vernco.com did not appear to function as an intermediary for the infection of any sites.

Has this site hosted malware?
No, this site has not hosted malicious software over the past 90 days."

It seems to be self-contradictory as it says it has "not hosted malicious software" yet it also says "resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent"

So I'd say don't go there unless you're running some form of Linux on your machine. The malware is Windows based so Ubuntu, Red Hat, SUSE, etc. are immune.

I'll keep checking it periodically. If his ISP gets it cleaned up, I'll pull a copy for archive.

This is interesting.  I wonder who his ISP is.  I am not sure but it sounds to me like the site itself is not "hosting" malware, or trying to distribute it to other computers, yet whoever / whatever is hosting this site is infected with malware.  I have had this happen to me in the past where my computer got infected and my ISP blocked me from internet traffic as not to spread the virus.

I know this is really old but I'm new to the forums and would have really liked to see that site.

Well I just checked The Wayback Machine and it has nothing.
Apparently something bad happened to his file system or the ISP went bad.
Whatever, it's all gone now.
Hey QJ did you ever take an image of his data?

I have a partial copy of it.

Here is the answer of Karl when i asked him about the future of his site;

Hello Pascal,

Thank you for the interest, but I am not interested in selling the website. I understand that you and many others would like to see it back online, but from my perspective, it was time to take it down. It's not a matter of losing interest, needing money, or requiring technical help. It's just time. That's the only way I can explain it.

I did not renew my rights to the URL, so that is up for grabs to anybody who wants it and is willing to pay for it. The content is copyrighted as mine, however, so I respectfully request that it not be reposted anywhere, whether at the old URL or elsewhere.

Sorry I do not have a more satisfying response for you.

Best Regards,

Karl

Bummer.
I can understand life changes that leave no time for things of the past.
But I don't understand not allowing someone else to preserve ones work.
I do understand there are parts of his site that he might not want preserved but the tech stuff is of great value to the Willys world.
I would plead with him to let someone (us?) preserve just the tech section of his site.

That is pretty poor on him to keep that knowledge locked away for no one else to benefit from.   Roll Eyes
