Are canvas tops one layer of fabric or two?

Hey guys, just wondering if canvas tops were one layer of material or two. I was looking at 'Eugene the jeep' and I can't see stitching that holds the straps in place showing on the outside. This would lead one to think two layers but figured I should ask.

I have what I believe is a 1954 top and it's one layer of heavy stiff canvas.

It is one really thick layer. I think it is 18oz canvas they use.
