Heat Wrench????

Can you use a "Heat Wrench" on the steering wheel to get it off easily?  The wheel is toast and the bakelite is gone.  Dont want to use too much pressure on the puller.
Thanks
Zeke

Try several applications of heat then cool the center with a piece of ice...or use Freeze Off once it has gotten cool enough that it won't cause a fire.  Try to not get the center shaft red....You are right, that wheel is pretty much toast. It would be a good wheel for a parts jeep that needs one or a good wheel for those who want to cut down a steering wheel for a larger driver.

Well since the wheel was past repair I took an air hammer to it from the backside, popped right off with no damage.

Tried a 3 point puller, wiggling the wheel from the drivers seat, tapping with a machinists hammer etc etc. In the end a $6 tool from HF. Wheeeee!

That steering wheel deal is a fun one. I have seen peoples noses and teeth after improper pulling Cry That is no joke. Glad you got it off. The heat and ice thing FBill I will have to try that elsewhere perhaps. First I have heard of that one... Cool Cool

FBill is correct, my Dad was a great proponent of fire and ice. Works well whenthe parts are thin or fragile as well as when they are big and stuck.
