Any tips for pulling hub caps without the special puller they show in the service manual?

I know it is wrong but I've used pry bars and large screw drivers....

If they won't budge without bending you can gently knock them fore and aft and up and down with a dead blow hammer/mallet and sometimes they will loosen. Heat would help...
