Short water pump for Buick 231 V6

Hello, I've been away working for a while. My project has been progressing slowly. I need to know if there is a short water pump for the 231 V6. Napa says no but I've heard it brought up before. If anyone has a part number.

Thanks, Cole

Never heard of such a critter?. Why do you need it? Those v6s fit pretty nicely.

Thanks for the reply. I placed the engine in based on questions you guys answered last year. I moved transfere case forward and to the right 1 inch. I don't have the body back on yet, but holding the stock radiator up on the mounts seems close. I thought there was some discussion a while back about a shorter pump. Probably with a mustang radiator there will be more clearance. Is there another radiator you might suggest? Also thank you for all your posts, I have stolen many ideas from you.

+1 on the Mustang radiator. I bought an aluminum one off Ebay with an electric fan. Had to also get the relay for it. Works real good and doesn't rob power from engine. Bolts up close to the grill for added clearance.

This is a mustang radiator and I pulled my engine forward a few inches when I built my custom frame and suspension.

I believe the short water pumps are pretty much a small block Chevy thing, including the 4.3 V6.  A short pump is a necessity if installing a sbc V8.

Getting ready to order radiator. What year mustang am I looking for? I am assuming the old ones, so v8 or 6 banger. And how do you mount, should I weld in tabs to bolt to. Do I need to brace with the rods that bolt back to the tub? Anything else you guys can think of would be great.

Thanks, Cole Smiley

This is the one I used. If you bolt it to the grille like the later 3As used, then you don't need the braces. I added mine because I welded some mounts to the fame for it and I didn't want the welds to break.

At the in-laws working on the radiator mount. I forgot that crossmember was in the way, so I cut it longways and welded on a plate. My brother in-law suggested that I weld in additional material below the crossmember to protect aluminum from flying objects. Tomorrow I'm going to tac some mounting tabs on the grill and get my brother in-law to Tig them. I'll try to post some pics. Smiley

I tried to repost, but I get a message that the file is too large. I just went straight from my ifon pics from choose file box. Do I need to reformat pictures? It is saying they are 2670k per pic. Sorry don't understand that stuff.

Thanks, Cole
