53 Horn

The totally rusted out 53 I just bought managed to have what I assumed is the original horn on the inner fender. I pulled it off and decided to run some power to it and to my surprise it worked!

I figured it would be a cool small project to pull it apart and restore it and this is where I'm confused. I looked on walck's webpage for a replacement horn to see the original colors and his looks completely different from mine. All the cutouts on his are parallel and on mine it looks more like a star pattern.

So is my horn an aftermarket replacement? I can try to get a pic if need be.

Dr. Vern wrote an article on how to rebuilt a horn.

Well none of those look like mine so I'm guessing it's an aftermarket thing. Weird part is that it fit perfectly on the stock mount. Oh well.

There are many horns that fit the stock mount. Can you post a pic?

I'll try to get one. May take me a bit to figure out how to post it though. I'm sure there's a sticky around here some where.

This is a horn picture from a rusty 2a...but the mounts are the same as in my 51 3a....note the four bolts instead of the more common two bolt mount...

That looks like an Indian Motorcycle horn to me.

Wow, good eye. After a quick google search for indian horn I found this (be sure to have safe search turned on, just saying).

That same horn is on one of our bikes. Wink I'd buy it if you want to sell it.
