Space between motor and firewall

How much space should there be between the back of the motor and the firewall?

My '49 CJ3A has a CJ2A motor in it, and a repro tub from the 80's that isn't an exact match to a CJ3A.  The spacing appears to be less than half an inch at the top of the motor.  Is that about right, or is there something odd about my configuration? (Well, I know there's something odd about it--I'm just wondering how odd...)

Thanks,

-Paul

It is tight, maybe 3/4" or so on mine. It varies, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I just measured mine and there is 1.5" between the head and the firewall. I have an original 3A tub.

Ok, yeah, Mac is right. I looked at this picture and it is pretty big. I couldn't remember how much it was. this os of an original body. My reproduction body on my '53 looks to be about the same too.

Nate--from that picture, it looks like there is a recess in the firewall behind the engine.  Mine certainly doesn't have that.

(Not a great picture--but it's the best of that area that I happen to have on my computer here right now.)

Looks almost like a different tub Huh Undecided  Something is definitely different from my 3a. do you have a 3A engine mounting plate on you're 2A engine? Could be the engine isn't sitting right in the frame. I had to deal with this on my 3A and there are a lot of possibilities. Make sure all you're stuff us 3A. The engine doesn't matter as long as you have the 3A mounting plate on it and you're frame is 3a. My L134 is 1944 Ford Military but with the 3A plate it fit perfectly.

It's definitely a different tub--this one is from the early 80's (or so).

I have no idea what the mounting plate is.  How do I check that?
