Way to ease into it Tim! I thought that was a vintage Indy car comin' round the bend! Drive it like you stole it! You've obviously proven that painting flames on a bellhousing unquestionably doubles your horsepower.

Thought I'd give you guys a show.  This thing hauls A$$, and handles like a Ferrari!  I wish it could stay this lite. I only ate a couple bugs.

Per Randy's request...


I used plywood for a floor and to hold the clutch and brake pedal arm in position.  I secured this by bolting it to the frame/tub mounts. 

I added a few chunks of plywood to mount the gas pedal. 

I strapped a gas can to the front and tied down the battery.

I used an old lawn chair and some scrap lumber for the seat. 

Key-switch, oil and temp gauge hooked up.  That's it. 

That lawn chair arrangement is a masterpiece. I especially like the floorboards and gas pedal mount. It's good to see Tim finally humanized for once. Even Mr. Meticulous himself does have an inner Bubba

Thanks for the great comments fellas.  Hopefully, I was able to put a smile on some of your faces.   I had a lot of fun with the test run and the video.  I was actually going faster in other episodes.  My wife was the camera gal.  On earlier ‘takes’, she was having a hard time moving the camera fast enough to keep up with me, so I had to slow down a little.

Randy is right.  2As and early 3As have a bottom mount radiator, but I was still a little nervous that the air pressure would rip the thing right off.   

Ryan, I’m as Bubba as the next guy.  Look at my OD Willys.  Nothing more bubba than making a 3A look like an M38.  At least that’s what they would say at the 503.    

My ‘Inner Bubba’ did me proud though.  I did this set up so I could put this thing through its paces.  For safety, I wanted the pedals and seat to be roughly where they are on an assembled Willys. 

Safety…hmmm.

Oilleaker noticed I didn’t have my steering wheel nut on.  For safety reasons, I thought it best that the steering wheel remain detachable.  Don’t bother trying to figure the logic in this last statement.  I’ve clearly breathed in way too many paint fumes.  Trust me, the wheel coming off did cross my mind on a few trips around that corner, but I was having way too much fun to stop and dig the nut out of the box.

Bretto, My wife took this for a short spin.  She commented that it was very comfortable and thought maybe we could just keep it this way.  I’ll bet you can guess what my answer was…

Birddog, on my computer, the wheels seem to get a bit washed out.  In person, they look a bit darker.   Your pale yellow Willys is the inspiration for our choice on the body color.   I had a small sample made up.  I painted a small bracket so we could see the contrast and compatibility.  My wife loved it.  Bottom line, she wanted ‘happy’ wheels.  To her, these are happy wheels for a happy Willys. And if she’s happy, I’m happy.

Aaahh, you're right.  No bubba cup holder is clearly an oversight on my part.  Going to have to add one!

The thing that is kind of neat about the chosen body color is that it looks white...until something that is actually white is sitting next to the pale yellow.  Yep...it's that pale.

Maybe I can convince Birddog to post a photo of his Willys here.  It will give folks an idea of where I am going with this one.

It has black windshield frame now, no roll bar, M38 top, Black wheels with yellow strip or yellow wheels with black strip. have not ade up my mind yet,
