While enjoying 1955CJ-5's "Too rusty to save" thread the past few weeks it occured to me that we often talk about out "tools" as much as we do our jeeps. I was given an old stick welder that I am so bad with I won't go near my 3A with it, but 1955CJ's thread has me pricing wire feed welders. Every time I see Nate's name on a thread I look at it just to see what else he has. Really Nate, showing ZEKED how to remove a tub with an excavator was interesting but can make one feel a bit under equipped at times.
Just thought it would be interesting to see what each of us deems nessessary to the 3A project.

Hopfully the photo you see below is my GEHL skid steer, it pulled the tub off my 3A, pulled the engine, front and rear ends, and the snow bucket makes a great spare work bench. And least I forget it has cleared 9 feet of snow from my driveway this winter.

So far what I use most are the sockets/wrenches and the cut-off saw. Lot's of bubbafication needing to be removed and getting close to body work.

I foresee a lot of cut-n-replace patching like 1955CJ has been documenting (nicely done, btw!) on another thread.

Also, a new angle grinder is on the list.

Most valuable tool I have is a laptop set up on the work bench. I could have substituted anything else but there is zero chance I would have completed my rebuild without the power of the internet. The small plastic thing called a "credit card" also helped tremendously.

And while I do not have a flashy excavator, this trusty little Cub Cadet served me well when called upon as a "Jeep Carcass Relocation Vehicle".

The most important thing I need to work on my Jeep or anything else is the motivation to get started. I seem to find reasons to not do something until I really have to. I am a life time member of the procrastinators club but I never have sent my application in. That makes me one of their top professional procrastinators and they have always intended to send me the certificate to put on the wall if I ever get around to it if they ever send it.

 

If that is a techumsah engine in that cub  you are in for a lot of trouble as they quit makeing techumsah engines and parts.  There is a place in texas that can get you some  but they are expensive to get

Kohlers are a good engine.

I agree with Ryan about the laptop on on the workbench although I still haven't figured where to put a OBD port on the Willys.
A forklift is pretty handy to have around at times.

A laptop computer did not come to mind when I first asked this question but I must admit acess to this site, the 2A, Photo Bucket, down loads, and e-mail have been by far the most used on my 3A project. I often refer to the Willy's Repair Manual but just as often it is in a place I am not. Under the notion "nothing is impossible", could the repair manual ever be assessable through the 3A page?
