Hi guys.. one of the things that we are working on as your moderation team is trying to get all the old members from the old Proboard site  to join up here if they are still interested in jeeps.  What I have noticed going there after Tim pointed it out a little while ago is that people are STILL using the site at http://cj3apage.proboards.com/
for some reason. Occasionally there are even answers posted to questions asked there.

When we did the member buyout I asked about shutting that old board down to new posting, and it seems that is not an option that Proboards offers.  Proboards offers FREE bulliten boards, but THEY OWN THEM and benefit from teh advertising that THEY post there.  As you can guess, they don't want to just leave a board up for reference without having it available for actual use and ad reading.

I am looking for two things in this thread.. One , a volunteer or two to split up the member list over there and personally email everyone on it with a welcome to the new board message, and two, do you guys actually USE the proboard  site for any reference in searches, etc.  

So..How about it? If we actually DO have the ability to shut down or delete the old board, will anyone care? Should we set a target date, announce it over there, and then glean anything we can from there first?  Is there anything useful over there that needs to be saved? Or is it all so hard to search it is not worth it?

Remamber we still have the site front page with all the FAQ's and HOW To's we got from Jonathan when we bought the site. We have a Tech FAQ section. And you can search the site here..

AS an admin it would be far easier to just shut down the Proboard but if people are still using it for research we cannot save it as an archive unless it stays useable as a message board. AtHawk (Tim ) did me a huge favor and posted on every active thread over there that the board has moved, we will see if that stops the new postings that show up every few days.

SO to make a long story short

 1: do you use the Proboard site anymore, and if so how often.

 2: Would you like to help out with the emailing of members over there?

  3: Is there anything in particular you want saved from the old board??

When I search a topic I use Google and typically search something like "CJ3A water pump rebuild". The old ProBoard pages frequently come up and I have found a fair amount of useful info there. What would it entail to migrate those posts to some sort of accessible archive? I'd be willing to e-mail the members of that old page but I think that's the easy part. The tough part is figuring out what to do with all that old info. Any suggestions from someone who knows more about this stuff than me?

I would be happy to help with contacting older members.  Perhaps we can each take a portion of the alphabet??  Just a thought.

I do go to that site on occasion.  Mainly when I mistakenly push the wrong desktop icon.  But once I'm there, I actually enjoy reading the old posts.  There is a lot of good information there.  Much like Ryan, many of my Google searches point me to topics at that site.

Per Bills description, I don't think it would be possible, but if we could somehow copy the whole darn thing...that would be great.  I wish I were a master hacker.
