Anyone got any tips/hints for removing the plug in the head next to the firewall to install a heater?

You could use a hole saw that is the same diameter or a touch smaller.

To remove a pipe plug from the head?

Dave, does the plug have a square head that a wrench would fit over? You could get a 1/2" drive socket that fits over the square head and use a strong-bar to break it loose. I would precede that with an extended soaking with PB Blaster.

Yes, it's a square plug...unfortunately (Ifound out the hard way) it is slightly smaller than a 1/2" drive, and very soft steel! I was reluctant to use heat because I thought I had read somewhere that it was risky around a cast head. Of course to make things more interesting, it is only about an inch behind the #4 plug, and under the cowl. Guess I'll try the PB Blaster. The other method I tried was to run the engine until the head was hot and added liberal doses of liquid wrench....Obviously to no avail!

Oops.  I'm an idiot.  I should have read the questions a bit closer.  I have "plugs in the firewall"  on my mind as I am trying to remember how the hoses for my heater were run.

Larry is absolutely right on.  My head plugs had already been removed.  Good luck on your removal Dave.

Thanks for your help guys. The plug has successfuly been removed!! I didn't even deplete the first aid kit much!
