Oil filter body was Fram Orange, lid and brackets black.  Fram Orange is hard to find, I used rattle can Hemi Orange, pretty darn close.

I have been looking for photos of civilian engines for the color. Not sure if original - but have found, orenge, blue, red, black, gray and od. Military is easy - OD and gray.

Thanks keep them coming if any thing else.

Factory civlilian color was black. Rebuilds could be red or blue. Military Willys was OD. Military Ford GPW was grey. Any other color was applied somewhere along the line by a previous owner.

Some people have seen what appears to be original red paint on some civilian engines. The red is actually a sealant applied to the bare block prior to painting.

Larry I have heard red on factory rebuilds but blue is a new one to me...Where did you find that out? Was it like the Ford blue or the lighter almost turquoise blue I have seen on quite a few?  I assumed that was something done at machine shops who stocked chevy orange and ford/Chrysler/plymouth blue for any engine they built...but as I am finding out Willys did stuff differently a LOT..

Mine is Ford Blue, but then again, it is a Pinto motor..lol.

I am a bit confused on the term "factory rebuild". As far as I know the Willys "factory" did not rebuild any engines, they did supply new replacement engines. Other companies, like Jasper for example, have factories that rebuild engines. They paint their engines any color they see fit.

Ya know, Bob, come to think of it I have heard of factory replacement engines, but not of rebuilts from the factory. I have heard on the boards lots of times the replacement engines were RED....does that sound right?

I do have many reports of Willys factory replacement engines being red. Been trying to determine if this red is just the sealer that Larry mentioned above or if they were actually painted red.

OK, a clarification!  Smiley

Factory replacement engines were red. 3rd party rebuilds were red, blue, and even grey.
