I do like this format and hope Jeep Rescue keeps it. Perhaps someone can help him rescue the info on the old site.

I would be willing to pay a fee to help Jeep keep the site alive. Be real fellows, this is not a money maker for Jeep and we all enjoy the site, at least I hope we do. The truth is while there was about 988 members less than 100 were active posters if that many. I would also help pay to keep it running fast.

If we need to we can make it a closed site for members only with open viewing but you have to join to post. If you don't pay at dues time you can't post anymore.

Socialism don't always work, someone has to pay or work, nothing in life is free, except in socialism. Socialism has never worked over time.

Pony up and share the load.

My costs are minimal.  I pay roughly $20/year to keep the domain name and a friend hosts it on his server for free.  The biggest drain in my time, which I have less and less of.  At least with proboards it ran itself with the help of Doug.  I can pay to make proboards faster and ad free if that is the consensus.

I'm working on making the text darker, but the changes don't seem to stick. Sad

If it meant retaining those 9500+ postings and all our history I would be more than willing to kick in a few bucks to defray costs.

I'll do some research to see how we can make the old forum better.

The only reason I don't want to return to the old forum is that we don't own the data and it can go "POOF" at anytime.

I agree with you on that. If we don't own the info then we don't really have any control at all and that is not a good position. I see no reason to go back under those conditions. I would rather see us build the info data here.

I guess everyone could go back to the old site and cut and paste the threads they want to and repost them here. That happened on a site I was on when the administrator turned into a dictator and most everyone left. They saved the data they had posted and then deleted it on the old site until he realized what was going on and locked the site. It was a real mess but we don't have that issue here, YOU just don't own and can't get the stored data.

I would guess there may be a way to capture the whole site but I am not that computer literate but I know people that are and they have downloaded a whole site.

Personally I like this one much better. It has better functionality and Jonathan has control of the data. This change is just a bump in the road. The CJ-2A, CJ-3B and G503 have all upgraded their forums in the past and looking back it wasn't a big deal. Just keep the old forum alive as read only so it can be referenced.

That's true but they never lost all their history. I'm not sure there's a full understanding of what starting over would mean. There were over 9500 posts on the old board with a tremendous amount of information, diagrams, photos, links, etc. Considering Proboards stance I would be surprised if, once they know the old board is inactive, they didn't pull the plug. I'm not opposed to the new forum but I'm not just shrugging off the lose of our history. Frankly, if it was me, I'd have a lawyer send them a registered letter demanding access to the data. They really and truly have no legal right to prevent it no matter what their "policy" is.

I think I've expressed my opinions on it as much as is reasonable so I'll back out now. Good luck whatever the decision.

I prefer the old board simply because of the reams of knowledge and info posted. It would literally take years for this board to catch up.
