Hello from Michigan
« on: January 10, 2017, 11:13:54 PM »
First let me thank all the guys here for their incredible fund of knowledge. I have been "lurking" on this site for the last year and a half and the info I have gotten has been awesome.
I have been a jeep fan for a long time having owned a wrangler, 2 cherokees, CJ-7 and a grand Cherokee over the years.  I have always wanted a flat fender and finally found a decent one locally about a year ago.  I am now the proud owner of a 1950 CJ3A, Serial # 52006. When I bought is it was barely running but the body and frame were solid. The previous owner was a veteran who "militarized" it with a 2a windshield, shovel and axe on the passenger side, and a overspray of OD paint.  The underside is still original Potomac Grey. There's even some original oak sticking out of the hat channels!!
I spent most of last winter scraping 60+ years of grease, oil and dirt from underneath and getting it running better.  The carter carb was badly worn so replaced it with a Solex until I get it rebuilt. Cap,rotor, points, timing, etc,etc and it now starts and runs great. A little rich though. New pinion seals, T-case output seals and a rebuild of the e-brake made it so it at least doesn't constantly drip all over the garage floor.
This winter I started with a complete rebuild of the rear end and suspension.
Looking forward to all the great info, tips and tricks on this page!!

Looks good!  Do you plan to turn it back into a full-on 3A, or leave as is?  Beautiful either way.

Thanks!  Yes the plan is to return it to its full 3A glory.  I have been trying to find a 3A windshield within a reasonable distance but no luck so far.  I really dont want to buy a "new" one if I dont have to.  There will be a bit of body work to remedy the shovel/axe situation - the PO simply pounded the indents into the body and smoothed them over with bondo.  Overall the jeep looks good cosmetically but there is a TON of work to be done underneath. Once I finish the rear end and redo the brakes it should be road worthy and safe.
